The email came at 2:17 a.m.
Aanya wasn’t even surprised anymore. She had been refreshing her inbox every ten minutes, pretending not to care while caring too much.
“We regret to inform you…”
She didn’t read the rest.
Another no.
Another door politely shut. Another version of her future quietly erased.
She closed her laptop and stared at the ceiling fan spinning above her. At 26, she had done everything “right.” Good grades. Extra courses. Internships. Late nights. No shortcuts.
Still, life kept replying with the same answer.
No job.

By morning, her confidence felt like a cracked phone screen still working, but broken in ways everyone could see.
